Last week Quill, a fine-dining restaurant in Manchester, opened its doors for the very first time to host a star-studded VIP launch. The Manchester celebs were out in force and guests included the cast of Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and the Real Housewives of Cheshire.
Amongst the guests (although sadly not part of the Manchester glitterati) was our very own Ben Spray, who has been working with Quill to oversee the creation of their branding and new website. Quill are part of the On The Wall group, the team also behind Chalk, an award-winning bar and grill we worked with earlier this year.
The Branding
When we visit a restaurant, the quality of the food is of obvious utmost importance. However, the quality of the branding and supportive brand collateral also helps to set the scene and impacts on the overall experience. So when Quill called upon Adtrak to create its branding from scratch, we couldn’t wait to get creative and make our mark.
Located on King Street, and in the heart of Manchester’s iconic luxury shopping district, Quill has replaced a vacant shop unit and, in the process, received a £1.7 million facelift. Positioning itself at the higher end of the market, and attracting customers looking for a fine-dining experience, the branding needed to be reflective of this.
Alun Davies, Senior Graphic Designer at Adtrak, headed the branding for Quill. He used the original concept of the quill and its ink to create a unique logo which is sure to captivate anyone who sees it. The logo is in cohesion with the restaurant’s luxury interior (think lots of feathers, birds, quills, nibs and books) and also its cocktail list, which was inspired by the quill and designed by some of Manchester’s finest mixologists.
In addition to the branding and logo, Alun created striking advertisements, including the hugely popular #quilliscoming. This was also accompanied by intriguing invitations and a distinctive menu design, as well as a large selection of stationary and supplementary printed material, such as cutlery holders.
The Website
Sarah Labuhn, Senior Web Designer at Adtrak, was in charge of creating a website to complement Alun’s painstaking design work. Based on Quill’s logo and interior, Sarah opted for a design which looked like an open book and, when viewed in desktop format, features the logo on the left and the restaurant information on the right.
The fully responsive site was built in WordPress, so the clients can easily update it themselves, and it includes a booking form to make reserving a table incredibly simple. The finished website is minimalist and sleek and combines stunning design with high levels of functionality.
