A business’s online presence has a huge impact on its success. It must be understood that the majority of prospective customers will visit a company’s website before making a purchase. And the quality of that website undoubtedly impacts results. In this article, we take a look at why you might need a new or upgraded website, and how we plan and build one.
Why should you get a new website?
We would generally recommend getting a new website every two to three years, simply because it is likely to have become outdated in that time or it no longer works or performs as well as it used to. However, if your website is slow to load or not mobile friendly, if it is hard to update, doesn’t appear on Google or your competitors' sites look better, it may be time to consider a new site sooner rather than later.
The website brief
Once you have considered the reason/s for upgrading, this in turn helps write the website brief. Part of this will include outlining the project goals, requirements and constraints, and furthermore we will also discuss:
- An overview of your company
- The problems you’d like your new site to address
- Your target audience
- Your competitors
- Page types
- Features & functionality
Site Structure
The structure of a website is incredibly important. Good structure is not only the foundation of any successful website, it also assists navigation for both your visitors and Google. If your visitors can't find what they are looking for, they’re likely to look elsewhere. If Google can’t understand your site, it won't be found or indexed quickly, so will rank poorly.
We will propose a well organised, solid website structure, including the pages and categories they will fall under. To do so, we will look at your existing website, importing and reviewing the existing live site. Additionally, we carry out keyword research. Benchmarking existing keyword rankings and researching potential keywords to be targeted, as well as using paid keyword search volume tools and competitor analysis. Finally, we carry out a thorough Google Analytics review, fully analysing the current performance to identify high and low performing pages.
User Experience Workshops
Your website needs to be designed and built with your customer in mind. Therefore to help us fully understand those users, we carry out User Experience / User Interaction (UX/UI) workshops. There are four processes that we carry out:
- Briefing - We review the discovery documents (issued by us, and completed with you, for us to gather all there is to know about your company and its goals) and review the content.
- Empathise - We learn and understand the personas of your target audience.
- Define - We ask questions and create solutions for what your website is trying to achieve.
- Ideate - We design wireframes (see below) for each user flow which influences the final designs.
Wireframe & Digital Page Design
A wireframe is a visual guide that represents the framework of your website and we design this once the UX & UI process is completed. From here, our team can begin to design your website.
Every design decision made is a result of the discovery and workshop processes. The information gathered influences the way we design your website, highlighting the research and results of previous stages.

Our team creates engaging and easily navigable websites which are thoroughly checked for quality assurance using our Device Lab.
